Creating a blog has been the best decision I have ever made and I want to share the process of creating my website with you! If you are working a full-time job or just are extremely busy I hope that my tools can help you be able to fit in your dream blog without feeling overwhelmed.
Write out why you want to start a blog.
I know you may be thinking why should I do this? But the reality is, writing out the purpose and passion of why you want to start a blog is so very important and when you feel like you want to give up, you can have this list as a reminder of why you started in the first place and in turn, this can help build your confidence to not stop but persevere through it!
Also, I would like to point out that you do NOT have to be a professional writer to start a blog! This is a huge misconception! People want an honest and relatable reading experience and they are not worried about your sentence structure or any other literary organization. I would recommend writing like you are having a normal conversation with someone.
Before you began to go through the steps of creating a blog. If you want to be productive on your blog I highly recommend purchasing a planner and selecting the dates and times that you will be able to fit in writing and publishing your post.
Having a planner is so very important because you don’t want to get overwhelmed with your full-time job and other responsibilities that you end up not having any time to put into your blog.
Having a planner and being consistent with using it will release so much stress when it comes to working full-time and also keeping up with your blog.
Determine the days and times that you have the freest time that you don’t mind sparing to give your undivided attention to your blog.
You should also plan out a launch date and write it down in your blog that way you have a deadline that you want to focus on and this can also keep you productive on achieving it!
Pick a blog name
Now that you know why you want to start your blog, it is important to figure out a name that means something to you and also expresses what your blog will be about. Make sure that your blog name is clear and easy for any potential reader to understand what your blog is about.
I took a day figuring out different name combinations and even used a name generator to help me be more creative with my blog name.
You need to ask yourself what exactly you want your blog to focus on: personal, lifestyle, religious, college, travel, food, etc? Focus on narrowing down exactly what you want to talk about. And this, in turn, can help you find a perfect blog name.
Pick a blog host
This is an easy process so don’t freak out! A blog host is the only way you will be able to have a blog. A blog host is simply the company that puts your blog on the internet so that people are able to find your website. I recommend: NameCheap and yes I personally use them and they are amazing!
With NameCheap, you are able to purchase a domain name (your blog name), Host your Website through EasyWP (which is simply WordPress). NameCheap is very inexpensive and I love the fact that their support team is open around the clock and they will help you set up your website from start to finish which is a bonus.
If you don’t want to purchase your domain name (which is the URL of your website), you can simply purchase the EasyWP and it will ask for the domain name you wanted but will have WordPress at the end of it; for example:
If you can afford to purchase a domain, I would highly recommend it because it won’t have all of the extra names at the end of it; it will simply end with:
.com, .org, .net, or whatever web suffix you decide on.
Also, your purchased domain name is yours and you own it and nobody can take that away from you. But it is not a requirement so don’t feel pressured to do it.
If you decided to switch from a free domain to a paid one just contact NameCheap support and they will walk you through how to change it! Super easy!
Choose your blog template
This is the really fun and customizable part that I love!
With WordPress, you have the option to choose from hundreds of their free themes or you can venture out and find premium themes that you will have to pay for, but personally, the premium themes are way better in customizing the theme to be exactly how you want it.
Here are three premium theme websites that I have personally used for my website and I have nothing but good things to say about them!
Don’t forget to take your time when selecting your blog theme, there is no rush and you want to make sure that the theme you use, either free or paid, represents you, your personality, and what you want the reader to experience when they come to your website.
Start writing your posts
Figure out how many times a week you want to post based on that information times that by 2 and make that many blog posts before your launch date, that way you can schedule enough blog posts in advance. This helps you be able to have your free time in your everyday life without worrying about posting each day or week.
A great tool to use for writing your blog posts is Grammarly. Grammarly is an app that automatically detects potential grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice, and style mistakes in writing.
Social Media Scheduling
Tailwind is a great tool to use with Pinterest and Instagram to schedule your posts at the best times for higher engagement and website traffic.
I love that with Tailwind you can schedule as many posts as you like and you don’t have to worry about them being posted.
